No more buying peaches and cream oatmeal packets with those artificial peaches. This oatmeal with real peaches and real cream is so much better that it’s likely you’ll never be able to return to the packets once you’ve tried this.

I eat oatmeal about 5 out of 7 days, I often even eat it as my night time snack before bed. Yeah I love oatmeal just that much. I never thought I’d say it, but it’s true. My mom would always eat it every morning when I was little and I never would’ve thought 15 years later I would be doing the same thing.  Of course I never eat it plain, simply sweetened with sugar or as she did by adding a half a stick of butter. I always add other flavors or fruits.  Some of my favorites include Banana Oatmeal, Brown Sugar Maple Oatmeal (a future recipe post) and this Peaches and Cream Oatmeal.

I made this using canned peaches because that is what I had on hand, and also I like the texture of the canned peaches along with the texture of the oatmeal. I rarely use canned fruit, but trust me this is one recipe where it works perfect!

You could also substitute diced fresh strawberries in place of the peaches for Strawberries and Cream Oatmeal, indeed another favorite of mine (I’d recommend adding the strawberries after cooking though and omitting the cinnamon).

Indulge, just a little =), with this heavenly Peaches and Cream Oatmeal.  Turn a drab breakfast into something exciting!

Cook5 minutes
Ready in: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats*
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp packed light brown sugar or granulated sugar
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup canned peaches drained or fresh peaches, diced
  • 2 Tbsp cream or half-n-half

Instructions

  • In a large microwave safe bowl, combine oats, milk, water, sugar, optional cinnamon and salt. If using fresh peaches add them to oatmeal mixture before microwaving so they will cook and become softened.
  • Microwave mixture on HIGH power for 3 1/2 - 4 minutes. Remove from microwave and stir in vanilla. If using canned peaches fold them into oatmeal after microwaving. Drizzle oatmeal with cream. Serve warm.

Notes

  • *Quick oats will work too just reduce cook time by about 1 - 1 1/2 minutes.

I’ve been eating a lot of oatmeal lately since I am breastfeeding my baby. My kids and I tried this today and we all thought it was really good! I am always a fan of your recipes! Thank you!

So sorry to hear that! Did it overflow or burst? Reducing power level or stirring should prevent that if your microwave is cooking hot.

It turned out perfect! Thank you for sharing! My dad and I loved it, better than the instant pack!

I use the juice from the can rather than milk. Adding a bit of milk when eating it. I make a lot of oatmeal for my mom who is on a very restricted sodium diet. She loves them all. She’s especially partial to my pineapple oatmeal. I use 1/4 cup pineapple juice, 1/4 cup water and add some cut pineapple. Heat water and then I simmer it for 5 minutes before adding quick oats. Once it’s in her bowl I top with some additional pineapple. I also make her apple pie oatmeal. I use 1 fresh apple, any kind, but she likes golden delicious. I cook the apple up the night before. I add everything I would if I was making apple pie apples for canning except no corn starch. I leave the vanilla till Apple is done cooking. I remove apples once cooled, measure apple juices from pot and add apple juice to make 1/4 cup, then adding enough water to make 1/2 cup. I then add apples back to the liquid. Next morning all I do is heat apples in it’s liquid and add the quick oats. I sprinkle a bit of brown sugar n cinnamon on top once it’s in her bowl. She’s so happy and there is basically no sodium, only what is naturally occurring. If milk is used then the sodium is increased but there’s no help for that. In summer I make her strawberries and cream or blueberry overnight oatmeal so it’s cold rather than hot. It’s so delicious that I make it for myself now too. Going to try the peach. I’d give her some heavy cream rather than milk to add to her bowl except I don’t have any on hand. Heavy cream is lower in sodium than milk. The less fat in milk or cream, the higher the sodium. Figure that. Either the sodium gets you or the fat does! Anyhoo, thank you for the recipe! I knew what I wanted to do but wanted to see how others are doing it. Going to use your recipe, switching it up only where necessary. Wasn’t sure about vanilla, sugar or cinnamon. Thank you!
Ps. Rice can also be cooked with 50% juice to 50% water. Mom like pineapple and broccoli brown rice, but other juice can be used as well, such as tomato. I use quick/minute rice. Cheers!
